Oh Senor Don Gato was a cat.....

I have fond memories of 4th grade music class. I can still picture myself sitting in the classroom and singing my little heart out.

This past weekend we went on a family camping trip, and I attempted to teach my niece and nephew one of my favorite songs from 4th grade. Only...I couldn't remember all the words. DOH!

Today, I finally had a moment to stop and look up the words...and now I'm going to share them with you all.

It's sing along time! Follow the bouncing ball!

(okay just kidding..I have no idea how to make a bouncing ball appear over the lyrics, but it would be wicked cool if there was a bouncing ball...so you'll have have to pretend).

Oh Senor Don Gato was a cat
On a high red roof Don Gato sat
He went there to read a letter,
Meow, meow, meow
Where the reading light was better,
Meow, meow, meow
'Twas a love note for Don Gato

I adore you wrote the lady cat
Who was fluffy, white and nice and fat
There was not a sweeter kitty,
Meow, meow, meow
In the country or the city,
Meow, meow, meow
And she said she'd wed Don Gato

Oh, Don Gato jumped so happily
He fell off the roof and broke his knee
Broke his ribs and all his whiskers,
Meow, meow, meow
And his little solar plexus,
Meow, meow, meow
Ay Caramba cried Don Gato

Then the doctors all came on the run
Just to see if something could be done
And they held a consultation,
Meow, meow, meow
About how to save their patient,
Meow, meow, meow
How to save Senor Don Gato

But in spite of everything they tried
Poor Senor Don Gato up and died
And it wasn't very merry,
Meow, meow, meow
Going to the cemetery,
Meow, meow, meow
For the ending of Don Gato

When the funeral passed the market square
Such a smell of fish was in the air
Though his burial was slated,
Meow, meow, meow
He became reanimated,
Meow, meow, meow
He came back to life, Don Gato

A bracelet for 50 cents?!?

I had lunch with a friend today...and as I waited for her to arrive I was eyeing up the gumball machines. I haven't bought something from a gum ball machine since I was a child. On the way out..I decided I 'had' to have the item.

I put in my quarters and turned the dial..instantly transported back in time.
The anticipation...would I get the color I wanted?
What if the item got stuck and nothing came out?
Would I be super lucky and somehow two items would come out?
The joy in opening up that little metal door and retrieving my 'prize'.

All this nostalgia was worth the 50 cents I put in....and today's prize? This wicked cool Zipper Bracelet with heart shaped zipper pull. Yup, I'm 5 years old all over again.

When was the last time you bought something from a gumball machine?

ATV'ing In KY

A few weeks ago, my husband and I packed up our RV, ATVs and the dogs and headed out to KY for an extended weekend to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. Everyone kept asking me "Why KY??" The reason.....because it's beautiful. I had been to KY before when I went to the quilt show in Paducah a few years ago...and fell in love with how pretty the state is.
Wilderness Trail Off-Road Park

We went to the Wilderness Trail Off-Road Park and while some of the trails were washed out from the recent storms, we still had a great time. There's nothing like riding to the top of a mountain and seeing the amazing views.

The trials were well marked and we met a lot of great people, including Marty from Marty's ATV Oasis.
DH had a blast riding in the mud...I steered cleared of the super huge mud puddles, but he drove right in.

Aside from the views, I was also fascinated by the cows that were roaming around the mountain side. They belonged to local farmers and were allowed to graze as much as they wanted. Living in WI, I see cows all the time...but it a whole other thing to just come across a cow on the side of a trail and not in a farm setting.

I'm not a fan of riding my ATV at nite, even though it has headlights it's not the clearest view, and I get nervous that a deer might pop out of the woods and clobber me in the head with it's hooves. So DH and I compromise and ride at dusk at least once during every trip. I've got to admit..the sunset views are worth it.

The only downside to the trip was that DH has a very strict 'no fabric shopping' rule while we are on vacation. He won't even so much as drive past a quilt store so that I can look in the windows and drool. Going right past Paducah twice and not being able to shop was hard. But I made it through..AND I'm going to the International Quilt Festival in Chicago this weekend..so I can make up for it there.
